Could a school-girl-crush from years ago really be the cause of her current emotional crisis? She hadn't seen him for a good year and a half. And even then it had been brief - just an accidental encounter over the holidays in a department store all glitzed up and teaming with crazed shoppers. He had been searching for a teapot for his sister. She was in need of a new sweater due to being back in the frigid city that was Minneapolis.
Why her parents had made the move only two hours south of Duluth was beyond her. She thought she was a stellar model of how perfect California was for living. If she had children she was possitive the grandparents part of them would draw them down to her piece of paradise in southern Cali.
What she had gathered then was that he was working in Uptown as a personal trainer at a very urban-newage gym. He lived just up the interstate a ways in an apartment with his university student brother. That momentary catch up session was not long enough for her to feel any way about it at all. This recent turn of events had her in a spiral of emotion. The high of having to spend time with him and the easy chemistry that held on through time and distance elated her. There was the matter of his significant other however. Which really she know little about - except the phone calls were incessant and seemed to sporadically please him and piss him off simultaneously. He was definitely affected with her, by her. But what about this new classic flirtation was it just our of comfort and ease that it existed.
She had gone so far with her life in the years since college. The summer in Greece, the teaching jobs along the west-coast and now this PR job with the foundation. She felt in so very many ways a changed person from the optimistic honors graduate of years before. She was closing in on thirty and felt it looming except when they were together discussing and planning. Even if he was on the phone or computer - researching and organizing - and she was typing and drafting, formatting and figuring, they would exchange glances or casually brush up against each other or do a brief shoulder rub or encouragement. Little touches of affection - but always friendly - not ever did she feel much from him that bordered on sensual or attracted. He was big- brother sweet in his niceties. The attraction she still felt, under close scrutinizing was going to get her hurt more likely than anything else
